Assessment before any IV treatment
IV fluids are not automatically suitable for every patient or every illness. Before treatment, a clinician should review symptoms, medical history, current medicines, hydration status and any factors that may make IV treatment unsuitable.
If IV therapy is considered appropriate after assessment, the medical team will explain the proposed care and any follow-up recommendations. Alternative treatment or hospital referral may be advised when necessary.
